Data Science, Machine learning and deep learning and the race to create AI. So many things happening around the world. Alpha Go beating a human (https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-the-computer-beat-the-go-master/) is then beaten by a better AlphaGo Zero (https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/oct/18/its-able-to-create-knowledge-itself-google-unveils-ai-learns-all-on-its-owN). And the last bit was my 18 month old son coming up to my chair and saying “Dada… cookie” while he playfully runs his fingers across the keyboard. I have a 4 year old son too.
So that gives you a glimpse into what my life looks like. I am not new to analytics, having been in the industry for about 12 years now in Pharmaceutical analytics supporting the commercial sales and marketing organization. I have worked with many of the syndicated data sources including IMS, Wolters Kluver patient data including a variety of in-house datasets at my company. I am fairly comfortable with wrangling data and programming but I am a bit rusty as my role requires that I manage the analyses rather than actually doing the work.
While I do like my role answering business questions using analytics and market research, I still am a data geek and would love to update my skills and stay as current as possible with the new trends in the field. But if you’re anything like me then finding the time between family with little kids, a full time job and sleep is quite challenging. So when does one find the time to do this?
That’s where this blog comes in. Why a blog? Another aspiration I had was to become a better writer. In my quest to become one I realized that I was a better procrastinator. So I’m hoping that my love of analytics can help me get started on my other aspiration. I could never figure out a subject that I could get behind and write about. But now I may be on to something.
I’m hoping to write about what I learn in analytics and as I learn more, I write more and move both goals along. But every great journey begins with the first step. So welcome to my blog!
I do have to add that it was a great stroke of luck to see this domain name not taken. I’ve bought domains before and I’ve always had to pick a second option. It was a pleasant surprise. I also bought stuffafterwork.com and aiafter35.com but aiafterwork.com was the winner because that’s what I was doing.
And so the journey begins…
